Myrchella 2023
The first itteration of an experimental 3 day (4, if your nasty) festival. Named after me mostly by accident, because it started as my birthday party.
Myrchella One took place in the abandoned resort town turned artist colony of Bombay Beach in the Sonoran Desert. This town on the Salton Sea was once a famous destination, now abandoned becasue of the extreame polution of its lake, the largest in California. (and often sited as its biggest environmental disaster. I recomend at least giving its Wikipedia page a glance, Its pretty interesting.) The town of Bombay Beach now is home to a small handful of very sweet residents, and most of its compleatly vacant lots are now home to art instalations, put up without permission by any artist who seems brave enough to do it. The town, in recent years, has received a small amount of attention because of the Bombay Beach Bienalle, a Yearly festival that attracts artists of all mediums and origins to participate however they see fit. It is not a spectator sport however. So to really enjoy it, I recomend contributing sometime.
I would like to thank all of my friends who were brave enough to make the treck into absolute nowhere middle of the desert upon my request. It truely means a lot to me. Even with the confusion of it being the first year. And to those who even performed, that was the coolest shit ever. You are amazing. And thank you to Miles, for making a soup, which was impressive given the location.
To those who ever find themselves in the area, there is an original Myrchella 2023 invitation hanging in the Lampshop Alley area of Meow Wolfs' The Real Unreal, In Dallas. Send a picture to me if you find it!!
